A friend of mine who has seven children introduce me to something called babywearing. I’ve often heard of an infant’s first three months outside of the womb being referred to as ” the fourth trimester “. Babies need to be held, cuddled, loved and swaddled just like the environment that they were living in for the past 9 or 10 months!
So my friend told me all about baby wearing which is using a carrier type thing to hold your baby close to your body while you go about your daily tasks. I started out with a zolo brand ring sling that my friend found for me. The website and numerous pictures are shown here: www.zolowear.com
I also was loaned a pouch sling. My baby has loved being held close to Mommy’s heart and I used either of the slings daily and even put my older children into it for a break on their little feet. If the baby’s crying during clean up time, he goes into the sling while I do dishes or sweep or mop. I also pop him into that for trips to the store or library and it leaves my hands free to push a stroller or hold little hands.
Check out the website. With baby #1 I started out with a JEEP brand carrier that did not work for me. I couldn’t successfully carry my baby comfortably for me. The carrier woulldn’t adjust to my size, and baby would hang down around my waist leaving a TON of pressure on my neck and back!!! This simply wouldn’t do. Now my hubby loves the jeep carrier and uses it often with comfort.
The sling however, can be adjusted to fit me and baby comfortably, and baby is snuggled up next to me like his positioning in the womb…. snug and warm against Mama! I am looking at trying out some other carriers as well as making a net ring sling ( also found on the above website ) for the summer months. Check out the zolo website and check back HERE for pictures and more!
If this sling does not fit your budget, ebay also has some good deals on them, just go online to check for your size before you purchase. I bought a medium instead of a small, and I love having extra fabric to use as a nursing coverup or to carry an older child in. Just a suggestion!
